Dental ImplantsA dental implant feels and looks like your natural tooth. Dr. Fellows inserts or 'implants' a titanium post beneath your gum. The post fuses with the bone in your jaw and acts as a root for the replacement tooth. Dr. Fellows mounts the replacement tooth on the post, where it blends in with look and feel of your natural teeth. Implants are not an option for everyone. Because implants require surgery, patients need to be in good health and must have healthy gums. The patient must also have adequate bone to support the implant, or be a good candidate for surgery to build up the area where the implant is needed. Patients also need to be committed to very thorough oral hygiene every day and regular dental visits. If you are considering implants, Dr. Fellows will need to do a full evaluation to determine if you would be a good candidate. Dental implants look natural, feel secure, and can be used to attach complete or partial dentures. It is also possible for dentures to be stabilized and 'removable teeth' to be made non-removable with an implant. The primary advantages of dental implants are that they look and feel like normal teeth and the adjacent teeth do not have to be involved. The disadvantage of implants is that their cost is higher than alternative procedures. ![]()
